How Nodeledge Works

A practical guide to learning with the Nodeledge platform.

Built-in structure

Every lesson in Nodeledge lives inside a bespoke knowledge graph. This is like a skill tree or map - it shows how topics depend on each other, and what you really need to know before moving forward.

Each lesson is a node in this knowledge graph. And every edge between nodes shows a prerequisite topic. This means your journey is fully structured, step-by-step, with zero guesswork.

The graph guides your learning path. It means that whenever you are asked to solve a problem, you will always have the background knowledge you need to solve it.

Start with a clear goal

Goals matter. Whether you're aiming for machine learning, data science, or just want a solid Python foundation - you start by picking a goal.

Nodeledge has built-in learning paths designed by experts or you can build your own path by choosing the topics you care about.

If you decide to build your own path, Nodeledge figures out everything you need to learn to reach that goal - and nothing you don't. Because it's all mapped, we can generate a custom learning path from your current understanding to where you want to go.

Your learning path can be as big or small as you like depending on your time commitment and goals! But we never let you skip prerequisite material which you haven't already mastered - this ensures you're always prepared for the exercises you're asked to solve.

Your learning goal determines which topics you need - we find all prerequisites across different subjects automatically.

Learning paths build on each other

Learning paths build on each other - Essential Linear Algebra for ML builds on Mathematical Foundations for ML, for example. Learning is cumulative, so when a learning path needs lessons from one beneath it, we include them automatically - a gap in the foundations makes everything built on top of it shakier.

And if you already know that groundwork, the diagnostic test lets you skip it - so you only spend time on what's genuinely new.

Take a diagnostic - and skip ahead

It's boring to cover old ground again and again.

That's why all our learning paths come with a personalised diagnostic test.

This is an optional test which figures out what you've already mastered - so you can skip it. This saves you significant time - often dozens of lessons or weeks of material!

That means you're straight away working at the edge of your knowledge, which is crucial for your development.

Learn by doing - one node at a time

Your dashboard page shows your current progress and the lessons you need to complete.

The Nodeledge system automatically delivers lessons to you based on your learning path and current progress.

My Learning page

Overview of the My Learning Path page in Nodeledge.

Every lesson follows the same, science-backed structure:

๐Ÿ” Clear explanation - No waffle. Just what you need to know.

๐Ÿง  Worked example - One real problem, solved step-by-step.

๐Ÿ’ช Your turn - A series of exercises to develop your understanding.

๐Ÿ” Review + retry - Fail a lesson? It's added back for a later attempt.

In addition to the above, we use many research-backed methods from cognitive science such as desirable difficulties, retrieval practice, and spaced repetition.

However, at the heart of our approach are the notions of mastery learning and deliberate practice.

Deliberate practice is the gold-standard in attaining high-performance levels in well-defined skill domains such as math and related technical subjects. Despite deliberate practice being the go-to approach for other areas of talent development (e.g. sports and music) there is a surprising lack of online learning platforms which take this seriously and build it into their pedagogical approach.

We change that at Nodeledge - ensuring that each of our lessons is carefully crafted to achieve a specific learning goal e.g. acquiring a particular piece of knowledge or mastering a relevant skill.

Never forget what you learn

Most online platforms have a dirty secret: learners forget 80% of what they studied within weeks. All that effort, gone. Nodeledge solves this with a built-in spaced repetition system that schedules reviews at exactly the right time - just before you'd forget.

But we go further than traditional flashcard apps. Because every topic lives in a knowledge graph, our system knows exactly how concepts connect. This means reviewing an advanced topic automatically reinforces its prerequisites - so you need fewer reviews to maintain the same level of retention.

Topic reviewed

Automatically reinforced

Review one topic and its prerequisites are automatically reinforced - fewer reviews, same retention.

The result? You reach fluency faster and it actually sticks. No more re-learning the same concepts every few months. The system adapts to your consistency - solid topics space out, shaky ones get more practice - until you've truly mastered them.

And if you do genuinely forget something? The system verifies before intervening - one bad day won't undo your progress. But if forgetting is confirmed, it sends you back to re-learn exactly what slipped, then starts a fresh review schedule from there.

Due reviews appear on your dashboard. A few minutes of practice keeps everything fresh - the system handles the scheduling so you can focus on learning.

Track your progress - visually

You'll see your learning graph evolve in real time - every mastered concept, every next step. Want something simpler? Use our classic view instead.
